today was the final message in the “truth<” series. steve did an awesome job pinch hitting for jonathan at the last minute. (hope you feel better, jBow!)

personally, i hated the message. but that’s only because it hit home and made me realize how bad i am at loving people a lot of the time.

something about translating “life” from john 15:13 as “your inner world” just hit me right between the eyes. i tend to be an introvert to a pretty substantial degree. i am a thinker. i am melancholic. when i’ve been out in the world among people for too long, i retreat into my mind as a coping mechanism. unfortunately, my wife often pays for it the most.

as far as music and such today - i felt pretty good about it all. one of those not-stellar-yet-mostly-solid days.

the foy vance song was fun to sing. quite a departure for us stylistically, but hopefully that translated into a little closer listen for most people. not sure what happened but my low string went horribly out of tune 2nd hour. i tried to tune on the fly and got it close, but it still was pretty distracting for me throughout the song. i came really close to stopping to retune. i was a tough decision - one of those no-win situations. which is worse? an out of tune guitar for a 5 minute song, or completely interrupting the flow of things mid song to retune? oh well…. if only people could have a look at what all goes through your mind when you’re performing or leading worship…

Stephen, I was in 2nd service and you totally rocked the Foy Vance song. I’m glad I got to hear a preview on your blog, because it really did allow me to just hear and appreciate it all the more. I LOVED your version of it. And while I did notice the out-of-tune string, I think you made the right call by just sticking with it and not stopping the song. It did not take away from the message of the song at all. Just my 2 cents.
